About the LBCDC
In 2002, approximately 43 Brownwood Lake area merchants and residents met at the Texas 4-H Center. The purpose of this meeting was to form an organization that would work to make the Lake more appealing for businesses and tourists, as well as for residents. The desire to make Lake Brownwood a vacation destination was the general agreement. Create a nicer place to live and encourage seniors to retire around the Lake were goals also.
With this objective, the Lake Brownwood Community Development Council was formed. The Bylaws were adopted and officers elected along with a board of directors of 6 members.
In 2003, the Council adopted a one-mile stretch of highway on both sides of the bridge on Hwy 279 from Texas Department of Transportation for clean up. Maps of the Lake area were printed and distributed.
In 2004, we were the steering committee that had the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza. We have had a Sheriff Candidate Forum and participated in the Christmas Decorations at Heart of Texas Baptist Encampment. In addition, we had another community-wide planning session in March 2004 and more actions will come out of that session throughout the year.
LBCDC is a 501 (c ) 6 non-profit organization.
We work with the Lake Brownwood Volunteer Fire Department on their annual Garage Sale and any other fundraisers. We have leaders from the Lake Brownwood State Park that assisted in getting the Council organized and worked with the Council on the execution of the Fireworks Extravaganza in 2006.
We also have officers from the Texas 4-H Center on the Board of Directors as a cooperative effort.
