LBCDC hosted the National Night Out in October. We had close to 90 people attend and want to thank Flagship Inn, Sheriff George Caldwell, Cpt Vance Hill & Brown County Sheriff’s Department for being at the event to provide Child ID Kits; Chief Troy Henderson, Lake Patrol; Lake Bridge Volunteer Fire Department for displaying fire trucks and to Big G Grocery for their support. Our Lake Community donated cans for tuna for Good Samaritan Ministries. Thank you to all our LBCDC Volunteers and to especially to our cook Alex. Below are some of the pictures that we took, hope to see more of you next year!

The Lake Brownwood Community Development Council featured Marquis Robertson from C.A.S.A. as the speaker for the LBCDC quarterly meeting scheduled for July 7, 2014 @ 6 p.m. at the Flagship Inn on beautiful Lake Brownwood.
Marquis Robertson has such a passion for children especially mistreated children It was certainly evident in his talk and sharing from the heart. His presentation was very informative. CASA volunteers are everyday people – teachers, business people, retirees, stay-at-home moms, and grandparents – who are committed to making a difference for children who might otherwise slip through the cracks in an overburdened foster care system. They are appointed by judges to guide one child or one set of siblings through the system to safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. CASA volunteers research case records and speak to each person involved in a child’s life, including family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and social workers. They monitor the progress of the child and family throughout the case and advocate for the child’s current and future needs in court, in school, and in agency meetings. Their independent evaluations allow the court to make better informed decisions. Because CASAs serve on one case at a time, they truly get to know the child and can give each case the sustained, personal attention it deserves. If you would like more information or wish to become a volunteer, check out their website. http://casabrownwood.org/volunteer/ After the presentation, the LBCDC members discussed that it is time to start planning the annual LK BROWNWOOD AREA FIRST RESPONDERS APPRECIATION DINNER. So please start spreading the word that we really need volunteers to assist . If anyone is interested in assisting in this event, please contact PATTA-(325)998-1138 blakepatta@yahoo.com or WANDA-(325) 649-9300 wanda@earlytx.com We can use a lot of help! Thanks! |
